- Transient: When it occurs for a few nights and does not extend for more than that.
- Sleep Apnea: It is caused when the breathing cycle of a person is paused at the time of sleep. It is one of the most serious medical conditions as the body gets less oxygen. This causes a person to wake up multiple times at night.
- Parasomnia: It is a sleep disorder that is known to disorient the movement and behavior of sleep in a person. It includes:
- Talking at the time of sleep
- Walking at the time of sleep
- Jaw clenching
- Wetting the bed
- Having restless leg syndrome: This condition makes it overwhelming for a person to move legs. This can, as a result, cause a tingling sensation in the legs of a person. The symptoms of this medical condition are also relevant in the day but tend to be more prevalent at night.
- Narcolepsy: This medical condition is characterized by sleep attacks which can occur in the day time. This makes a person feel extremely tired and sleepy at any time without any prior warning and can cause a person to sleep. This can also give rise to sleep paralysis which makes it difficult for a person to get up right after sleeping.
Treatment of Sleeping Disorders
There are different ways to treat a sleeping disorder based on the underlying cause of it. The treatment pattern of this medical condition can be a combination of medical treatments as well as lifestyle changes in a person.
- Medical Treatments: Following is the medical treatment for sleep disorder in a person. It includes:
- Taking sleeping pills
- Having cold and allergic symptoms
- Taking supplements of melatonin
- Using a dental guard at the time of sleeping
- Breathing device with people who have breathing problems at the time of sleep
- Lifestyle changes: Some changes in the lifestyle of a person can greatly improve the quality of sleep of a person especially when it is included with the medical treatment. Following are the things that need to be considered:
- Eat more vegetables and start by reducing the sugar intake in your daily diet
- Start working out as it can help a person who is facing stress and anxiety
- Have a sleep schedule
- Do not drink a lot of water before going to bed
- Limit your coffee intake
- Decrease the use of tobacco and alcohol
- Eat limited carbohydrate meal before sleeping
Having a proper schedule for sleeping and waking up can improve the quality of sleep. Sleeping endlessly on the weekends is also a bad habit as it makes it difficult for a person to sleep on time during the workweek.
